Delta Men Lose to #9 Lansing Community College

    Drop record to 2-3

Lansing, MI -  The Delta College men's basketball team knew it would be a tough challenge to face a nationally ranked opponent.  Combine that with the fact that the Pioneers were on the road in front of a hostile crowd against a battle tested ball club and the challenge got even greater.  The Lansing Community College Stars proved to be too tough for the Pioneers and won 108-82.

The first half was a game of runs with the Stars jumping out to an early 10 point lead.  The Pioneers went to their bench and freshman forward DoMariye Lloyd went on a 6-0 run to tighten the game back up 17-13 at the eleven minute mark of the first half.  Then the Stars freshman guard Jameryn Jackson took over and hit two consecutive three pointers to push the lead back to 39-23.  The remainder of the half was evenly played and the Pioneers found themselves down 51-35 heading into the break.

The second half was much like the first as the Stars opened the lead up to twenty points at the nine minute mark.  The Pioneers then ramped up their pressure and a Lloyd put back cut the Stars lead to 78-65 with eight minutes to play.  Unfortunately for the Pioneers, that would be as close as they would get as the Stars cruised to a 26 point win.

"Live ball turnovers and transition baskets hurt us tonight," said Pioneer Head Coach Carlos McMath.  "We would get consecutive stops but it we just couldn't convert on the offensive end."

Freshman forward, DoMariye Lloyd, led the Pioneers with a career high 21 points.  He also added 11 rebounds and 6 blocks.  Jon Swift added 12 points.  Jovon Thomason had 5 assists.

"We have eighteen days until we play next so now is a great time to get back to work and re-instill our fundamentals and get back to a high level of competition," said McMath.

The Delta Men's basketball team (2-3) will be back in action on Wednesday, December 6 when they host Sienna Heights.  Game time will be at 6:00.
