    SWIFT SIGNS WITH MADONNA UNIVERSITY

Since graduating from Plymouth Salem High School, Jonathan Swift has come a long way in two years.  The sophomore point guard for the Delta College men's basketball team went from barely being in the rotation at the beginning of his freshman year to signing a scholarship to play for the Madonna University Crusaders.

"I had a tough time making the adjustment to college athletics my freshman year," said Swift.  "Before the start of the conference season, the coaching staff pulled me into the office and laid it on the line for me and basically told me that I needed to work harder on and off the court."

Swift accepted the challenge and made the most of his opportunity.  As the season progressed his game evolved and he earned a spot on the MCCAA Eastern Conference All-Freshman team.

His game continued to develop as he devoted a lot of time to skill work, conditioning, and the weight room in the off season between his freshman and sophomore year.  He put on over 10 pounds of muscle and increased his vertical jump.

This year, he saw the results of his hard work as he started all 25 games and bumped his scoring average up 6 points to 14.3 points per game.  His assists climbed to 3.8 per game as he ran the offense and got his teammates involved.  He averaged just over 3 steals per game and always accepted the challenge of matching up against the opponent's toughest offensive guard.  Jon also saw his rebounding average increase to 5.5 per game.  For his accomplishments, he was awarded MCCAA Eastern Conference first team All-Defense and second team All-League.

"Jon matured not only as a basketball player but as a young man," said head coach Carlos McMath.  "He bought into our player development program and was a great leader for our team.  I am excited to see him play at the next level."
