Delta Defeats Mott for Their Second Straight Victory

Coming off a win the last time out, Delta looked to keep the momentum rolling on the road against the Bears in a tough conference game. At the end of one quarter, the score was deadlocked at 17 but the Lady Pioneers were not satisfied, believing they could create more havoc on defense by getting in the passing lanes and pressuring the basketball.

The second quarter they surrendered just seven points, building a 15 point lead in the process at the halftime break.

"I tell my team everyday defense wins games, but rebounds and free throws win championships," Coach Shonda Long said after the win. "Against Mott we accomplished two out of three which led to a victory."

The second half started with more solid defense from the Lady Pioneers only allowing 12 points and extending the lead to 19 after three quarters and eventually going on to win by 16.

"I'm very proud with how all of our ladies are buying in on defense and rebounding," Coach Long added. "Knowing that we may have a shooting slump on offense, but our defense and rebounds are something that we have control over every game."

Harmany Williams led the game in scoring with 28 points for Delta and Marisa Morton added 14 points. Shallon Grawey lead the way off the bench with 6 points and 9 rebounds.

Next up for Delta is a home contest against the Ocelots from Schoolcraft. A season ago, Delta and Schoolcraft battled three times with the Lady Pioneers winning two of the three meetings.
