Morton Powers Delta to the Road Victory

Often in games when a player scores 40 points in a game, the team goes on to victory, but it may not be the prettiest of wins. This was not the case. After a five point halftime deficit, Delta scored 50 as a team in the second half in order to defeat OCC. 

"In the locker room I just told the girls we missed at least 10 lay-ups and didn't play our best half offensively," Coach Shonda Long said. "I told them to keep up the intensity defensively and once our shots start falling there's no stopping us after that, and we'll come out on top."

She was right. Another big third quarter for Delta flipped a five point deficit into a five point lead and gave them the momentum to finish the game strong. 

Marisa Morton led the way for Delta with 40 points while going 15-19 from the field, who appears to be fully 100% after an early season injury caused her to miss the entire month of December. She has been putting in the extra work to improve her jumpshot and it's working, to the tune of 51% from the long line in the last five games.

"I feel like were peaking at the right time heading towards tournament time and March Madness," Long added. 

Harmany Williams added 19 points with five rebounds and five assists. Waskwane Stonefish had eight points and Starlyn Farriell off the bench added nine.

A tough week is ahead for the Lady Pioneers as they host Mott on Valentines Day and then travel to undefeated Schoolcraft on Saturday, February 17.
